On my recent walk along the South West Coast Path I
learnt the importance of using the lightest kit you can get your hands on. The
Yeti Passion One down sleeping bag probably did more than anything else to
lighten my pack. At 265 grammes it's ridiculously light, absolutely insanely,
stupidly light. The bag is also tiny - no bigger than a one litre water bottle. It keeps you warm too. Yeti, who make the Passion One bag, claim that it's ‘comfort rated' to about 15 degrees Celsius. I slept soundly (in my woolly underwear) when it was about 10-12 degrees C which makes the bag perfect for summer and early autumn use in the UK and much of Britain and Europe. The secret of it's warmth lies in the use of Crystal Down - a super fine type of down from Eastern European geese. It's the warmest lightest down available with a fillpower of 900+. It's humanely harvested from free range Polish geese and is fully tracked and traced from bird to bag - something that I feel is very important. I hadn't heard of Yeti until recently but it has apparently been around for decades. The bags are handmade in Germany and are being imported into the UK by the people behind OMM and Vasque. All in all, the Yeti Passion One is a superb bag that lightened the load of my pack along the South West Coast Path considerably. When I do the next leg of the journey in late Autumn and early winter, I may have to revert to my warmer but heavier Vaude Featherlight bag, but until then, I'll be sticking with the Passion One.
