"I thought I was going mad," he says.
Whilst some psychiatrists who use exorcism undoubtedly regard it as a mere comfort for their patients, others believe they really are expelling spirits. For them, it is far more than a placebo.
Demonic possession and exorcism are nothing new, of course. People in all cultures, throughout all of human history, have invited spirits into their bodies and forced others to leave. Jesus himself cast out demons, most famously on the road to Gadara, where he drove out the evil spirits from two men. These demons immediately took over the bodies of a herd of pigs, who then cast themselves off a cliff.

written by sugamari, May 05, 2008 Well which side should a good guy join? The Catholic Church is a crock of shiite. If the idea of Satan and demons is Catholic then I'm confused about why Muslims think America is the great satan. As for the demonic possession - I believe for sure - check my article "Azimuth Full Circle" on Wordpress. What I want to know is how can this stuff go on under the radar? The war of good vs evil is so obvious but which side is evil and which is good? This is the matter that needs to be made clear for the public. ...

written by Eric Faith, March 14, 2008 I'll keep this as brief as I can. I am a 32 year old art student that has had a few jobs working with the elderly, developmentally-disabled, and what modern medicine refers to as the 'mentally-ill.' I, like many good Orthodox and Catholic priests, believe that not ever case of so-called mental-illness is as such. For example, I worked at a residential facility in Central Illinois, where I currently reside, as a CNA that only received three weeks of training which is a whole different story and why I lost this specific job. Anyway, much of the duties had to do with being as helpful as you could be in an assisted-living environment. I remember sitting in a smoking section of the building when a middle-aged lady began to scream something about demons. Many of the other residents there were just a little bit alarmed and began to avoid her. I walked up and asked her to please try and be calm when she mentioned something about a man who had put his hands on her and asked to pray to receive the Holy Spirit. I asked what was wrong and she screamed that all she could see were demons around her, perhaps similar to what can be seen in the movie 'Gothika.' I asked her what she wanted me to do. She asked me to pray and I could only think of the Saint Michael Exorcism prayer by Pope Leo the XIII of the Catholic Church which is quite simple. I knelt and made the Sign of the Cross as she stood up from the chair she was sitting in. As I prayed, she began to quickly speak in a very nervous and nonsensical way that is similar to what Pentecostal Christians refer to as a so-called gift of tongues (also referred to as 'glossolalia) that I do not believe in and my interpretation of Saint Paul's letters is much different than their sect's. After I finished the prayer she sat back down and began telling me a significant portion of her life story that involved being sexually abused by a man claiming to be a Pentecostal preacher. It makes me sad that so many of these preachers accuse other denominations of what many of them are in fact, guilty of. That aside, I encouraged her to speak to a preacher or a leader of whatever Christian faith she might believe in for counseling because I did not have the expertise needing to really help. It seems to me that perhaps this poor lady was spiritually starved and is one example of why Catholic Christianity retains the teaching of Seven Sacraments (the rites of the application of the grace of Jesus Christ) such as the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Thanks for allowing me to share this simple story. Eric ...
written by Indianaghosthunter Jerry, March 14, 2008 As a ghost hunter and member of an investigation team we come across lots of different spirits. Some involve possessed homes and people living with possession. We have led our own exorcisms without a priest as the bible states you do not need one. My priest knows what I do. Using the power of God and the Bible, we have set free lots of spirits. ...

written by A faithful one, January 08, 2008 Exorcisms are real, demonic possession is real. The dark one is a liar and has persuaded science that God does not exist. It is the devils greatest lie. I have seen poeple freed from demons. The folks possessed have messed with ouiji boards and the like and lived to regret it. There is a war going on out there and the dark one wants to destroy us. Exorcism is true and frees us for Gods love and light and mercy. God Bless you and keep you safe from evil, to His glory and honour. ...

written by Rational, September 21, 2007 People who believe EVERYTHING can be solved, or related to something, scientifically are a bit closed minded to a degree; the only reason I say this is because even scientists do not believe that everything is scientific. However, I would suggest you, Believer, are far more close minded to call "Down with science". Thank you. Let's see who you come running to when you're dying of Cancer and then rethink that statement. ...
written by Believer, September 02, 2007 Finally people are recognizing that science is incompetent to solve people mental problems. I never heard about any psychiatrist that cured a person with mental disorder, but I have heard many times about people that have been cured from mental problems in their churches. Down with science, God bless you all! |
